And that can be both a good and bad thing. The main campaign in Warhammer 3 is very story-driven, even more so than Warhammer 2's Eye of the Vortex. And a collection of little quality-of-life changes carried over from other recent Total War games tie the single-player campaign up with a nice little bloodsoaked bow. With interesting campaign mechanics that build up rivalries between its memorable main cast and several new armies that don't play like anything we've seen in Total War before, it excels on just about every level, strategic and tactical. This franchise could also be used for WW1 or WW2 games in the future if they ever decide to go that route. We've finally come to the end of the sweeping dark fantasy trilogy that began six years ago, and Total War: Warhammer 3 is a worthy capstone. There's literally no reason to call it tw anyways as the core design is just not compatible with the 40k setting. Whereas AoS could easily exist as a continuation of the WH codebase (hell they could even reuse a bunch of models if they wanted).Īnd if CA wanted to make a 40K game they could just not call it total war, instead launching a sister franchise that's designed around more modern military doctrine. Sure 40K may have wider appeal, but it would require extensive rewrites and possibly even a new engine to make a competent game that's faithful to the setting. It would bring more attention to the setting which benefits GW greatly, and fits the established TW systems close enough to work without heavy revisions like 40k would need. The problem is that total wars core design just doesn't fit the 40k setting very well.ĪoS would fit the total war format better than 40k ever could. CA could literally pick whatever they want. IPs with lack of good video games are more common than sand at the beach. So would a hundred other franchises out there. So if all you have to offer is "40k fans would love it to finally get a good game" - well. If we are talking SciFi there are a lot of IPs that are way better at actually pushing sales. If we are talking tabletops there are systems that fit the total war formula A LOT better. It would be great for 40k fans - but its a onesided deal. (in fact it would require a complete rewrite of both). It doesnt fit their engine and well established formula. Trust in the brand has been pretty low due to a ton of crappy shovelware games. If anything TW:WH popularized what was at that point a dying tabletop system.Ĥ0k has little to no value to the total war devs. But at least it was a good fit for the Total War formula and made sense for the engine.īut TW:WH certainly didnt become popular because Warhammer Fantasy moved a ton of people. Warhammer fantasy is an even shittier IP. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
